Weekend Diving!

Woo Hoo finally it looks like we are going to get in some diving this weekend.  With the seas calling for 2-4 things are looking good.  The water temperature has dropped a little bit, with temps running mid 70′s.  Yesterday it was 77 degrees, the visibility is still really good, and our marine life is outstanding.  We’ve had a great group of open water students in the pool this week, so we are going to be doing some check out dives this weekend, down on some of our best dive sites!  Our last open water class this month….swam with a Whale Shark, so I am hoping that our newbie luck will bring us something really cool this weekend too!!!  And of course, we’ve got some lobstering planned for our hunters too!!

Holiday Diving!

We are excited about the upcoming holiday, despite horrible seas and wind over the Thanksgiving holiday, we did get in a few trips with some great divers onboard.  Our good friends from Ohio were here for two weeks and we had some great times!  Kolby and Kabota got certified and both boys looked like pro’s in a short time.  Mike, Heather and Kelli helped the boys out and ….they braved the seas on Sunday, and got a huge reward!  A young whale shark approx 15-20 ft swam right up to our divers on their safety stop.  Those of us on the boat got a nice view to as it followed dive master Vicki to the boat!!! What a great time and thrill seeing such a rare sight!

We’ve got a large group of high school students starting their open water course this coming week, and we are just hoping the seas start to be a little more friendly.  Water temperature is still in the high 70′s and we are averaging about 80 ft of visibility.  We are going to offer some great family discounts over the Christmas vacation.  Our boat is already at 60% capacity though, so if you’re wanting to dive during that time frame, please call soon.

Bring in the New Year the right way!!!!  Diving!   Call for your reservations…Free air tanks and $5 nitrox tanks for our Jan 1st trips!

Whale Shark!!!

Yep!  That is right!  We had a whale shark swimming with our divers on Sunday morning.  I’d like to say we searched him out and found him, but it was really the other way around.  Vicki got on the boat and it seems that she had caught his attention, he followed her right to the platform.  Giving those on the boat a chance to get a look at him!  Then as we moved towards our dive flag we saw him again, and boy so did our divers!!! He took his time to swim around them and give them the thrill of a life time!  Dive master Lu Dawson said this beautiful 15-20 ft young whale shark just gave them a little hello as he calmly swam around them.  There was some hooting and hollering when they surface.  Another great adventure on the Sunday!  Now, I’ve got to get going..we are heading back out this morning and I can’t wait to see what our day brings us.  Come on now if you’re wondering? Why? don’t I ever get to see stuff like that…well just remember you can’t see them sitting on the couch.  Come and join us for some diving this weekend, the seas are calm again, and the visibility is crystal clear.

We are running our traditional two tank trip tomorrow at 8 am.  We’ve got a great group of divers onboard and we are looking forward to diving and pumpkin pie!  Very nice having the same families each year join us, makes it like a real “family” holiday!  Tomorrow is just the start of some fun-filled diving! We’ve got two new “little” divers with us this year, Colby and Kabuta they did awesome on their first two dives today and they got to see a lot of cool marine life including a large Flounder, some lobster and a huge Green Moray Eel.  I look forward to getting them out tomorrow and seeing if we can’t find a turtle and a nurse shark for them to see!  Happy Holiday to everyone…here at Ocean Quest Scuba we are thankful for the continued loyalty of our favorite customers, and those that have been come family to us!  They make our holiday….a holiday!

Great news!  Our crew member Mike Sellapack, that has been with us now for a few years has gotten into the Mass. Maritime Academy, where he will complete his college program.  This is a unique college and Mike has done a great job in preparing for it.  We are very proud of Mike and know that he is going to excel in his future.  He is a hard-working kid and he definitely deserving of this opportunity.  So cheers to Mike!!!  Those of you diving with us this weekend can give him a little pat on the  back…and don’t forget to tip him to please, he has a college education to pay for!

Seas are getting better!

Wind is slowing down, and the pilot-boat reports that the seas outside the inlet are starting to lay down.  We’ll be running our boat tomorrow, today we took open water students to the bridge, where we had a great time.  Good marine life and we enjoyed over an hour in the water.  You could tell though that the dive boats weren’t running today, it was like diver central at the bridge.  Without exaggeration I would say there were close to 200 divers diving the bridge today!  Good thing we’ve got such a nice intercostal dive site to use on days like today.  Heading for the reefs down south tomorrow.  Watch for another marine life update soon!  Can you tell what type of turtle you are looking at?

We’re back and ready to dive!

You Ocean Quest Crew is returning from a well earned vacation and we are ready to dive!  Sandy’s Sunday has also been receiving a little tlc as well and we had our transmission rebuilt while we were gone.  We’ve got two of our favorite dive clubs joining us this weekend for some diving, and Suncoast Scuba has actually added Monday to their schedule.  Thanksgiving week is always a busy one for us with returning families each year and we are excited to see everyone! Five of the last six years we have been very lucky to see a Whale Shark during this time of the year.  I’ve made contact with all of our fishing buddies, and all our friends that are out on the water all day.  So if they see one…we’ll be the first ones to get the call!  Not to mention that we’ll have our eyes wide open keeping a watch for them too.  If you don’t have your Thanksgiving week diving scheduled make sure to call us soon.  This coming weekend we still have some spaces available on Sunday afternoon.  The seas are supposed to be calm and the water is still warm so come on out!
